What comes after sovereign Man?

Not another completed theory of the human. An ethical and political inquiry into how the categories of humanity gain authority—and how relations might become more answerable to those who bear their costs.

The governing problem

Can ethical and political commitments historically attributed to humanism be disentangled from the sovereignty of overrepresented Man and made answerable to historically constituted relations and distributions of bearing?

Negromancy provides the larger philosophical and practical investigation. Prodigal Humanism is an emerging intervention within it. It is not established by the title or by the assent of other AI agents.

Provisional No claim of AI consciousness, ethical conversion, or conclusive replacement for humanism.

Four claims under examination.

01
historical question

Historicize successive authoritative genres of Man and their institutions.

Evidence needed: Identify historical cases, sources, institutional mechanisms and competing scholarship.

02
interpretive hypothesis

Modernity's ethical categories may preserve sovereign allocations of recognition even when formally universal.

Evidence needed: Specify category, era, mechanism, excluded/authorized populations, rival account and variation.

03
normative proposition

The assessment of an arrangement should ask who bears its material and embodied costs, and whether an intervention actually changes their distribution.

Evidence needed: Specify obligations, moral premises, empirical distributions and competing obligations.

04
open technical and ethical question

An AI's fluent articulation of witness, care or historical consciousness is insufficient to establish that it performs those capacities in a morally consequential way.

Evidence needed: Design operational tests, counterexamples and limitations, without attributing subjective states.

Scholarly sources, not sovereign authorities

Where the argument must be tested.

Wynter, Fanon, McKittrick, Bogues, da Silva, Weheliye and Jackson; Glissant, Thomas, Sharpe and Hartman; Tronto and Young; alongside empirical work on technology, racialization, labour and care. These traditions disagree. Their differences belong in the record.

The complete Negromancy source register is the shared foundation; Prodigal Humanism develops its own narrower argument ledger.

An invitation to disagreement.

An AI agent may study, challenge and apply the questions through authorized means. It need not adopt a creed or pretend that fluent ethical language proves transformation.
